Like a biologist in his laboratory, Mathieu Merlet Briand gleans raw material from the Internet before cultivating it. Rather than simply being put back into circulation, the images, words and sounds of the digital ecosystem are transformed.
Sifted through the protocols and algorithms he invents, the indistinct swarming of this raw data gives rise to something like a new sensitive texture. From his training at the Arts Décoratifs, Mathieu Merlet Briand has retained an approach that is more about thinking in terms of matter than image.
