Mathieu Chavaren is a painter born in Moissac in 1990. He lives and works in the Basque country.

His practice is based on observation of nature and a constantly renewed preoccupation with the perception of time and our surroundings.Inspired by artists such as Joseph Beuys and Henri Michaux, his practice is built around large-format works that are seen as interior writings or meditative thoughts, and today explores new mediums.

In May 2024, he and Manon Sailly founded the Résidence Villa Mathilde, in Arcangues, Basque Country, to enable artists of all disciplines to come and work and immerse themselves in a unique environment.
